Capture quick sketches of the woods and prairie at this beautiful Forest Preserve!

You love to draw; and you love to travel. How best to combine the two? In this class, you will learn how to maximize your times as you sketch and draw the landscapes of your travels. Emphasis includes: how to extract your vision form the landscape using elements of composition; how to render basic forms of the landscape; how line and gesture are used to capture the landscape; and how color can be used as an exciting addition to your drawing. Using water-based pens and colored pencils; students will begin their own travel sketchbooks inspired by the beautiful grounds of Ryerson Woods; based at the charming Brushwood Center. Water-soluble pens will be available for purchase from Nina.

Painting Studio: Color Exploration

Bring richness; color and depth to paintings. Using a limited palette guided and inspired by color theory; students will implement techniques such as layering, optical mixture, broken brushstroke, and glazing to create complex, expressive color. Basic ideas about painting will be reviewed. Students will learn about materials and techniques in the medium of their choice, including gouache, acrylic, and oil. Students will learn to construct paintings with a variety of subject matter; using information about composition; color; gesture; and line.
